What is the best way to learn swing? Courses, books, watch online lectures? Where to begin?

But I would not teach this technology now. Maybe Java EE is better?

If you really want to get confused with a desktop in java, then the current technology for this now is the new Java FX, the one in jdk8. Swing successor.
In principle, it is quite an option if you need something unpretentious and not particularly beautiful, but to be cross-platform with a minimum of effort.

agree with OnYourLips . java for detscope is not dead, no ... but very little demand .... better either java ee or android ─ there are more vacancies, and if you need swing, you learn quickly enough
