Where to connect free (cheap) mail on the Microsoft Exchange protocol?

For decades (I'm not kidding!) I've been using the following bundle: Microsoft Outlook mail client (desktop) + Microsoft Exchange server + personal domain (myasurname.ru). In recent years, an email client on an Android smartphone has been added to the bundle.
I use Microsoft Outlook from a Microsoft 365 Family (paid) subscription. The Microsoft Exchange server is cloud-based, from Microsoft itself (a paid subscription to a long-dead organization). Everything is paid from my personal bank card.
Everything works almost perfectly: mail, contacts, calendar are synchronized with the computer and phone. The search finds messages from 15 years ago almost instantly.
What do you want:
keep the existing configuration, but cancel the paid subscription to the Microsoft Exchange cloud, because I have 1 (one) email address (maximum, addresses of family members on the same domain can be added), and I do not use the Microsoft Exchange administration features at 99 %.

Summary:
- you need free mail on the Microsoft Exchange protocol (or another, while maintaining the functionality and the ability to transfer old letters and contacts)
- your own domain
- transparent synchronization with your phone and desktop Outlook in both directions of mail, contacts, calendar
- ideally - the ability to create additional aliases for the mailbox (now I use "[email protected]" instead of the main "[email protected]").

Thanks in advance. All the best!

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find one. And you won't find it cheaper than Microsoft's.
This, as I understand it, is an option that is considered cheap (3 Eur / $4 / month per account):
- https://www.ovh.com/ ca/en/emails/hosted-exchange/
- https://www.ovh.com/world/emails/hosted-exchange/h...
However, OVH in SBG2 (Strasbourg) recently had this:

Here's more:
- $8/mo - https://www.rackspace.com/applications/microsoft-e...
- $4/8/mo, but the price goes down with the number of users: https://www.ionos.com/ office-solutions/microsoft-e...
As a result, the MS offer is cheaper: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/exch...
The small companies that offered Exchange that I met before are now everything was closed.
You can also be offered a separate server (or VPS) with Exchange as a service, because. "shared exchange" most providers do not like.
There is also https://www.open-xchange.com/ A few years ago they had a free version, now it is not clear whether they work with someone other than hosters.

Firstly, there is no and never was any "MS Exchange protocol", but there is MAPI, one of the many protocols that eksch works with, and Outlook (when it works with eksch).
Secondly, there is no free mail on the MAPI protocol, there was not and will not be, unless libmapi is brought to mind (this is like wine, only for MAPI). Why? Because MAPI licensing costs money, it costs money to make a product - it is necessary for the project to be sponsored by alegarh.
Thirdly, cheap mail on MAPI can only be taken from M$ itself - they will be very happy to shelter your fifteen-year correspondence - FBI agents cannot sit idle!

Exchange is a proprietary paid product. Nobody gives it for free.
Free alternatives - moving the domain to yandex.ru/mail.ru - there were TP for business with free but limited tariffs.
As an option - perhaps suitable - Axigen (up to 5 users for free), Iredmail, or Postfix handles with the necessary luck to configure. Naturally, for these purposes you will need your own virtual machine - how you get it and where you place it - depends on you.

What do you mean by "preservation of functionality"? Except, of course, receiving and sending emails, which any mail service can do. How is MAPI holding you back?
