Where is PowerPoint used?
Actually I look at PowerPoint and I can not understand - why is it needed. After all, a presentation is just a set of slides with small portions of text. No, you can certainly make it all crawl and ride, but I have never seen this in real life.
The software package is very large, but it seems to me that 99% of its capabilities are not needed by 99% of people. Because You can make a picture viewer with superimposed text in a day.
If the presentation should be just beautiful, then a designer is clearly needed here, and stupidly having PowerPoint in a person will not give him anything.
I myself work in a very large office. Our designer can only insert pictures in PoiwerPoint and that's it. The presentations turn out really beautiful, but with the same success it was possible to show them not in PowerPoint, but as separate pictures. And there would be no difference.
So what is the purpose of this software? Why no one uses its functionality, but the software is considered to be in demand.

It is used to convey information by a person/group of persons to other persons. In education, sales, meetings within companies. It is difficult to imagine meetings of the board of directors without several presentations-reports.
You can make pictures as you write yourself, but drawing them in any graphic editor will take more time, and editing them even more. Not to mention all sorts of software tricks such as slide timing, quick rearrangement if necessary, the ability to embed controls for conditional transitions between slides, etc.
Just because you don't need it doesn't mean others don't.
Like any other software, you need to be able to use software, and few people know how to create competent presentations without tons of clipart, not overloaded with graphic effects, with a thesis presentation of essential information as a support for the oral part of the presentation. But even a crooked presentation is more convenient than crooked cue cards .
In general, I got the impression that you believe that you "guessed the secret of the PP", and do not expect to see an answer to your question here ("why is it needed"), but expect to see confirmation of your thought here ("it is not needed"), do not find and get angry. It's not constructive.
Of course, this is not suitable for an Apple presentation. But what about students, schoolchildren? How to show the director, so that everything is clear and there are n more tasks that can be solved? PowerPoint allows you to quickly and beautifully make a presentation, without any skills. And "crawling" and "driving" makes an impression)
