Where is bower installed?

I'm learning bower and didn't understand a bit:
Where is bower installed?
in the project folder? Or somewhere globally?

Bower itself is installed globally, if on Windows, then C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\npm. Components through it are placed in the project folder, where package.json, .bowerrc and bower.json are pre-created
