Where is python used besides the web? Nice language, but I don't hear much about it. If I know about python that both scripts and desktop applications write, and someone uses it instead of mathCad, then nothing is heard about ruby, except on the web.

Where you can. You don't hear about him because rubists don't give a shit about you. I heard how a semi-annual desktop application was converted to ruby in three days. You see, you're just at a level where you're dependent on others. You care about someone else's opinion instead of understanding and appreciating the power of the language and ecosystem.
