Maybe someone knows sites where you can see at least approximate statistics on the number of programmers in the world in different countries? Or perhaps you have come across articles where some research on the number of programmers was published?

I searched a couple of years ago, found only fragmentary, indirect and very approximate data. I doubt it has gotten better over time.
