Where can I read about how search engines work?

Recommend articles where you can read how search engines work.

A simple Google search gives general information, such as the stages of work (indexing, ranking, search), but considers these stages very superficially.

I'm mostly interested in the technical side of the issue. For example, for ranking, you can use the Okapi BM-25 algorithm, but it was created in the 80-90s (more than 30 years have passed, have Google / Yandex / Yahoo not been able to improve it?). I know that there is an improved version of it bm25f, but still questions remain, for example:
Thanks to the bm25 algorithm, I can get a dictionary of keywords, like word: weight (that is, how much the word corresponds to the content of the text), but SEO specialists rarely consider individual words when creating texts for sites, they usually use queries, such as "Buy a house in Novosibirsk". So the search engines are looking not just for words, but for whole sentences at once?

In general, I hope for your advice ...

I think there is where and download
in English it is free

at once for whole offers

God forbid, there are 10,000 words in a person’s dictionary (they actually lead from 5,000 ordinary to 40-80k Pushkin-Tolstoy levels)
, but there will already be more phrases and proper names ...
naturally, no one simply searches for words
unless the combination is reduced to a stable synonym (cap - cap)
