When to use ORM and ODM?

As far as I understand the ORM principle is used in relational databases like MySQL, for example. And ODM - in document-oriented (MongoDB, etc.). Why then with MongoDB use Mongoose which implements the ORM approach, if you can immediately take a relational database?
