When are EC2 limits given on Amazon AWS?

I registered with AWS Amazon, but they immediately give very few limits on EC2. I know I need to write to support for a request, but I had an account for a long time, I didn’t create any tickets, and they gave me limits, but I don’t know when? Does anyone know when limits are automatically given for EC2?

Here's what Amazon's help says:
To help guarantee availability of AWS resources, as well as minimize billing risk for new customers, AWS maintains service limits for each account. Some service limits are raised automatically over time as you use AWS, though most AWS services require that you request limit increases manually.
