What would you recommend for the first open source project?

Hello. There was a desire to make a small opensource project. And naturally the question arose of what to do. So far there are only 2 ideas:

  1. a number of components that, in their total application, form a kind of desktop (tape with open applications, windows, explorer, search, etc.)
  2. just a file viewer with the ability to display in a modal. With ambition to cover as many file types as possible

For the first option, the choice is between angular and react. For the second exclusively vanilla.
I wanted to ask what would be more socially useful and more developing? Maybe you can offer some other ideas (what would you like)? Thanks in advance.

There is a controversial issue here. See what skills you have.
But in general, the best solution would be to merge these two points. Because the file viewer on the Web desktop is a very useful crap.

Make a Dicom File Viewer

The second one is much more useful, but also more difficult. As an example, I can give WebODF a wildly buggy viewer - a generator of odf files, which has been actively written for more than 5 years ...
