What would you recommend for landing and/or creating a layout for WP?

So 10 years ago I made up the design of my hamster in Artestee, but 10 years have passed, yet they have changed. what is now free or limited for personal use, in order to visually create a kind of "design" in the application, by analogy with the mentioned software.
The fact that I googled everything at once requires money, without even letting me see if it’s like it in general, whether it’s good for me or not. Ready-made themes (I looked at a hundred), I didn’t like any at all (either too complicated or none) and there’s no time to go through millions of them.
If the topic is a dead end, then advise a suitable tutorial, not old, how to make up without problems?
