What will happen to me for copyright infringement?
I am writing a game, and I want to use characters from other games (Sonic, Megamen and Mario) as some NPCs. What will it be for me? Will it be possible to just remove the character if asked - without any problems? Can they sue for it?

If you don’t want to publish for yourself, then do as you wish
If you want to publish somewhere, then you simply won’t be allowed on decent platforms
if you do not need the stores (as already written here).
sued if they are - then when something is at stake. if you sell 20 copies of the game, then no one is interested in you, because there is nothing to take from you, and they won’t find it, there are more interesting things to do. and if they see that the game is becoming popular and you are making money, then they will start thinking...
It all depends on the copyright holders. For some, the fact of violation is enough, for others, you are not interesting until a small volume.
I have seen examples of pre-trial claims. I will say that there was not a particularly popular game.
By the way, half a year ago I met with one company, they said that they were expanding the staff of lawyers and would be more actively fighting this. But on the other hand, they told what and how can be done legally.
