What version of asterisk should I install? 1.6 or 1.8?

Thank God 1.4 fell off due to not supporting TCP.
Who has experience with both versions, what would you advise?

Put 1.8. At 1.6. there were big memory leaks. And the support time for 1.8 is longer.

1.8.7+ - also ok The
further choice depends on the needs for functionality.

There are also off-the-shelf distributions, such as TrixBox . It seems to me that it is easier to start with them when getting familiar with the system.
