What type of linux bond to choose if the links are connected to different switches not in a stack?

You must select the fastest bonding mode. Connecting to different switches is necessary for fault tolerance.

If your switches do not support MEC (Multichassis Etherchannel), something like vss from cisco or vpc from cisco nexus, then nothing. Only active/backup mode (i.e. both will not work at the same time).
PS It used to be like this and now it's most likely the same, but maybe not.
