What type of display (grid or rows) in the category should I choose and why?
Greetings.
In different online stores, products of categories are displayed differently. Mostly in a grid / blocks, several in a row or in lines (one record after another). For an online store of clothes or books, a grid view is preferable without unnecessary descriptions, which are rarely read by anyone, but choose a product by appearance. This begs the question, what kind of product display in the category will be the best for, for example, car speakers, drills, large household appliances? I have never read or seen materials on this issue, maybe someone will advise something sensible on my issue or write a link to useful material.

It all depends on two factors that determine store usage scenarios.
1) Target audience . If the target audience is used to buying with their eyes (a store of glamorous handbags), we use pictures and forget about the tabular view.
If the target audience is interested in the maximum density of information and attention to characteristics (for example, wholesalers on a site for the purchase of auto parts), then you should choose a tabular option.
2) Product. If we sell spectacular wow-things, then without pictures there is nowhere. If we sell outwardly similar things, but with a bunch of different characteristics (smartphones), then a table view with a very small image of the product will do.
A/B testing will help. And so, in general, usually, it seems to me, the user himself can change the display option.
