What topic to choose for the thesis project?

It's time to choose a topic for the diploma, but there are still few ideas.
About myself:

  • 4th year student of the specialty "Information systems and technologies"
  • Profile: c# (asp.net (webforms), winforms) using MSSQL database server (junior experience, up to 2 years)

Preferences:
  1. Big data topic (which I know is popular right now)
  2. Web application (mobile application) providing some services
  3. Data comparison apps (like pdf mergers or something like that)
  4. Cloud technologies (including cloud databases)

Time to write: about 7-8 months

Find startups with a simple idea - it's better to make something alive to some extent

The idea is not in your profile, but I think it might be interesting https://github.com/deadalnix/SDC

I will advise from my bell tower. I wouldn't write a game as a graduation project. A mobile application - for example, a news aggregator for a diploma, is probably somehow not serious.
I would look towards the corporate sector. For example, I would take an existing business process and describe it.
For example, in different areas (according to the technologies that I would use):
- for production - an order planning system or product accounting. (WPF, WCF, ASP.NET)
- for trading - for example, the functionality of an online store (what is not a graduation project) (WCF, ASP.NET Web API).
- workflow system (simplified version - it will be enough for a diploma) (WinForm, WPF, WCF, ASP.NET)
- for general use - messaging system (SignalR, ASP.NET, WCF, WinForm, WPF)
There are many options, you need to choose a direction.

As a web application, I can advise a rather useful (IMHO) idea, look at qlik sense and do the same only in the form of a web application and open source, ideally also a self host
