What to write a low knowledge engine (PHP)?

Hello. I have a rather low level of knowledge of PHP: 2 years ago I wrote a small blog, with the output of news, user P/U, authorization/registration. Now I need to write something like an engine, mainly in which work will be done with the database. A large number of non-standard works are planned for ordinary CMS. I don’t really want to write from scratch, there is a desire to use some kind of framework, but I just can’t figure out object-oriented PHP, too many questions arise. So, what would you advise to do, write everything from scratch or use some kind of "light" framework, with a low threshold of entry? Thank you.
