What to choose: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 or CentOS 7 x64?
There is a mysql table for 10 million records (about 80gb).
The bottom line is this: a lot of read / update / write requests are planned to be made to this table.
I confess that I am not an expert on axes, but I am more or less versed in Ubuntu and CentOS.
Actually, why I ask this question is because there is an opinion on the Internet that CentOS writes to tables 5-7 times faster than Ubuntu. Is it so?
Versions: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 or CentOS 7 x64
RAM: 4GB
CPU: Xeon, 4 cores.

Of course, these are performance myths.
Choose what is more familiar / more convenient to work with.
The impact of the OS on performance with the same file system and kernel tends to zero.
Who is stopping you from building a custom kernel or compiling mysql the way you think is best?
In my opinion, CentOS 6 is preferable for the server, stability is guaranteed. And Ubuntu is good for working machines, a lot of fake whistles and everything is always fresh.
What to choose - an apple or a pear?
The question sounds exactly like this, in the vast majority it is a matter of taste and experience.
