What template engine would you recommend for an OpenSource Yii2 project?

I was going to write my own CMS for the sake of experience and use in future work. It will be OpenSource, there will be extensibility for specific tasks with modules, there will be some popularity for sure. There is a question in a template engine choice. Yii constructs in views are not very designer-friendly, I think to use a template engine. Choosing between Smarty and Twig, point out the pros and cons of templating engines.
I used a search on a toaster, Habré, Google, everything that I found posts 5 years ago.
Also concerned about the question of what is easier for the typesetter.

Use Twig, it is not only more functional than Smarty 2/3, but also three times faster, eats less memory when compiling and uses less memory when compiling templates.

twig. It even has a PHP extension to speed things up.
