"From the beginning" is a loose concept. For me, it’s not very interesting to waste time on uninteresting tasks. How I did:
Read RubyMonk (before metaprogramming) (!)
Go to Codewars .
You open easier tasks there, open in parallel something like overapi.com/ruby and try to find a solution. Let it be mega-huge, not logical and long, then you can see a lot of other people's solutions, which sometimes amaze, and after each task there is a feeling "what, it was possible? Ruby, you're cool!" :)
