Read Okulov for example. Solve tasks for different years. No special knowledge of the language is required for the exam.

It is strange why no one suggested Faronov ?! It is quite possible to master the basics even before the end of the calendar year. And practice until the end of the training.
I also recommend Osipov (but he writes about Delphi), he qualitatively gives the basics and syntax of the language.
