What software do you recommend for automatically saving changes to files?

Greetings.

There is a folder inside which is a branched structure of folders and files without an extension. There I keep notes on various topics. I use SyncThing to synchronize between mac, windows, linux and Android, but either due to my carelessness, or due to the use of special characters (/~:) in the file name, records have disappeared from several files and I don’t see a way to restore them, so how versioning was not configured in SyncThing and these records were not left on any of the devices.

Recommend some software that would track changes in files and make backups of them.
