What's the point of buying webfont fonts?

I plan to buy the desktop version of the font on Myfonts. Along the way, they offer a Webfont version at a discount, which will be on their server.
I will indeed use the font also on the web, but is there any point in buying the web version, except for legal issues? Maybe they are somehow facilitated, optimized for the web?
Plus, I want to keep the fonts at home, given the recent blocking.

It's for legal issues.
Here it seems strange to go for half measures - and pay, and at the same time remain a violator.
If you want to swipe - why not swipe the whole thing, including the desktop one? If you want it to be according to the law - what's the point of doing it halfway?

There is no tricky point. This is the licensing option.
By the way, please note that the license will say that you do not buy the font, but pay for a license to use it. And with a limit on the number of downloads.
