What programs can be used to make a show with AR elements like in the Augmented Reality National Geographic video?

There was a need to create the same (well, almost) show as National Geographic did in this video .
To be more precise, we need an inexpensive solution, preferably a complete one, so that this can be done by the university.
All there is is a screen and a lot of ambition.

What is shown in the video can be done by simply overlaying the video, as far as I understand, there is no interactivity there. If you are going to move the camera or interact with 3D models in some way, then Vuforia may come in handy .
