What OS architecture to choose with 3 gigs of RAM? x86 or x64?

I have an old laptop (lenovo g565, almost 5 years old) with such an AMD Athlon II P360 processor , with 3 gigs of RAM.
Tell me which architecture is better to choose, x86 or x64?
Since the laptop is old, I would like to achieve maximum performance!
I plan to use it for WEB development (JS, RoR)

If the memory is more than 4 GB - definitely x64
If the memory is less than 4 GB or 4 GB - definitely x86
All other characteristics are not important, only the amount of memory.

In case there is an upgrade later, you will have to rearrange the system.
So I recommend x64.

There are x86 and x86_64 (amd64). What is x64?
