Dear fellow developers, please recommend some open source project to participate in it to gain experience. Or is it worth going the other way - writing your own application? Thanks for the advice.

It seems to me that for gaining experience it is better to start with your own. See how everything is arranged there, what are the rakes and how to get around them, learn to follow the recommendations of Google.
