What needs to be registered in DNS so that all subdomains address the main domain?

The task is very simple. It is necessary that all subdomains address the main domain
. I always added an A record *.domain.ru and specified the ip of my server. And everything always worked.
But now I removed a new server and domain, added an A record, configured Apache to accept all subdomains, waited 72 hours and nothing worked.
What could be the problem?

PS And the mail.domain.ru subdomain works as it should
