There is also a problem in the screen size - on my netbook, some Ubuntu dialog boxes (ubuntu 12.04) do not fit on the height of the screen.
And so ubunta works quite well on it, but I would recommend ubuntu with XFCE or another more "compact", in terms of the size of the interface elements, DE.
