What material to read about creating a subdomain?

Apache HTTP Server

All images will be on a separate subdomain to speed up the work. Unable to create a subdomain, because. can't find good documentation. So far I'm testing on local hosting (using Open Server).

If your subdomain is located on the same server, then you will not get any acceleration.
You can get acceleration if you put nginx before apache and give the directory with statics using nginx without contacting apache.
