What map service can be used to get a list of settlements along the route?

There is a task. The user specifies the locality of origin and destination. A route is laid out for him on the map between the given points, this is not a problem. But in addition, you need to display a list of settlements through which the route passes through on the map itself and from the bottom with a sign. Something similar is implemented here www.ati.su/Trace/ , I would only need cities.
I tried to use the Yandex.Maps API and the Google.Maps API, neither one nor the other gives this information. There is information on segments that are not associated with settlements in any way. I tried to parse the coordinates of each segment on the route, use them to search for a settlement using ymaps.geocode, but the information is unpredictable, because segment coordinates can skip large settlements if there were no turns or other actions in it on which the route is divided into these segments.
Maybe someone has come across a similar one or knows some service (paid / free) that allows you to do the described?
