1. Steve McConnell - Perfect code.
Why hasn't anyone named this obvious classic yet? (I already Ctrl+F
zeroed on the page, I didn’t believe it at first).
- I also recommend his "Algorithm Analysis. Introductory Course" (although this is aside from the subject).
2. Kent Beck - Extreme Programming. Development through testing.
- many consider this approach to be an antipattern, but it is certainly worth reading, if only to be able to look for errors in the author's reasoning (it's worth it).
A few more very different books that for me are on a par with McConnell:
3. Frederick Brooks - The Mythical Man-Month.
4. Andrew Hunt, David Thomas - Pragmatic programmer. The path from apprentice to master.
5. Tom Demarco, Timothy Lister - The human factor: successful projects and teams.
Further, McConnell in (1) after each chapter has a huge list of literature on the topic, most of them are recognized classics, you can directly take the list and put it in this thread.
