What language to choose to write a site processing ms word documents?

Task: you need a web site (or web application) to which users will send ms word documents, and the site will process the contents of the document, which may contain pictures and formulas. So, you need a powerful language that works well with text (with ms word 2003/2007) and you can create websites. I'm currently studying perl 5. But after 1.5 years of working with c, java and python, perl's syntax is just a nightmare, and oop is generally terrible. Advise something...

- availability of free hosting for 1 page with 4-5 elements (no java)
