What language / technology to start learning on the New Year's "vacation"?

I am an android developer, I would like to learn something interesting this holidays. Initially, I looked at Scala or Erlang, but now I have doubts. Something related to the backend is interesting. What would you advise?

In the question, you wrote an Erlang tag. Erlang, of course. :) Everything is easy, the main thing is to develop the necessary reflexes.

If Java, then JDBC, Java EE, you can look at ORMs, including for android, the same Hibernate (although it seems to be little used in android, as far as I know). You can look at google web toolkit - it's a cool thing.

From the frameworks I saw the vacancies of Spring, Spring MVC, Struts.
What salaries for such vacancies do you think you know.

I'll try to drag you to the dark side - look at Go, especially since since version 1.4 it has been friends with android
