What is your opinion on developing a home automation solution?

There are already many implementations of "smart" homes, but few of them are wireless. And there are no cheap wireless ones at all. ZigBee is expensive, although I really like the idea. You can develop a virtual interface for Apple HomeKit.

The price must justify the goal. Start from the task, why do you need a smart home? To regulate the light from a computer - probably it is enough to use a nooLite or 1-wire thread. And if you are going to thoroughly automate (boiler, blinds, gates, doors, video surveillance, etc.), then most likely you will get a whole bunch of technologies. Or a vendor log with a crazy price tag.

If you want to get a result, and not engage in a hobby in the field of inventing a bicycle, then you need to look at the experience of the bearded men who came up with the KNX Smart Home. Yes, it's expensive. But after studying this technology, you may have ideas to create your own inexpensively, but for a long time.
