What is the Standalone VKontakte application?

Tell me, please, I don’t really understand .. the method https://new.vk.com/dev/messages.send and others, with which you can send a message to users, can I connect to my site?
It says that "This method is only available to Standalone applications."
What is standalone? Do PHP sites fit this description? Or VKontakte applications? Or browser extensions? Or just windows programs? Or mobile apps?

Standalone in the understanding of VKontakte is an application that can receive text (or rather, a token) from the browser's address bar. For a token with extended rights can only be obtained from the VKontakte server (it is being redirected. No js can pull it out without access to the browser)
It will not work to get a token from the VKontakte server using a PHP script, hence the truncated rights)
You can get accurate manually - then paste it into a PHP script and have equal rights with standalone applications.
