What is the rule in .htaccess redirecting from one page to another in Wordpress?

The essence of the task is simple - there is a page page1, it is necessary that when you go to it, the content of another page page2 opens, but without redirection.
In theory, the rule should look like this, but it does not work - when you enter the page, you are redirected to another:
RewriteRule ^page1/$ /page2/ [L].
There is a suspicion that this is due to the fact that the site is on wordpress and some default rules of Wordpress overwrite it.

A simple solution is to check in your template whether you are on page1 and return the content of page2. But why this is necessary, I have no idea.
