What is the literature on the topic "Composite application"?

While studying Microsoft Prism Library 5.0 for WPF, I came across the term "Composite application".
The English Wikipedia provides links to libraries and frameworks. There is no such article in Russian Wikipedia.
Is it possible to read something on this topic or is it an artificial, "marketing" term applicable to specific frameworks and libraries. Is there a synonym for this term?
