What is the lightweight linux for Pentium III (non-pae)?

Prompt linux (or *bcd) with some working environment, fast, and non-pae kernel.
I tried slako pulpy (Xs did not start because there was no driver (did not bother)).
Damm Small Linux, slitaz, bodhi, something else hung right after the start (Grub worked. after starting everything hung)
xubuntu 10.04 with the option forcepae -- forcepae WORKED VERY SLOWLY ....
who. what does he know...?

Probably. not only because of PAE...
As suggested by Evgeny Simonenko @easimonenko
Some distributions do not work because of kernels with mandatory PAE support, for example, Ubuntu.

Pentium 3 seems to support everything up to SSE2 (inclusive?)
PAE appeared for the first time (if I'm not mistaken) in Stump4
So you need a distribution kit with a kernel without the obligatory RAE and not cooler than i686 (In theory, it can be cooler, but I don't know such names)
I don’t really want to collect anything myself (I mean a new super cool distribution kit with support for stump3 and "caravans"), so I'm looking for something ready, for example. debian (in theory, it can be installed somehow cool (the old version or the new one will work too? ) that it will be quite minimalistic (i.e. fast) and not too simple (and not too complicated).
Who can tell me how - thanks
As for specialization...
For good, I’ll attach TV to it (via vga-scart (I hope that somewhere it will be possible to set the refresh rate (lower from 75 (standard for vga) to 60 (standard for scart, composite)) and I will run all sorts of nes on it ( dendy) ...... sony1 (collecting for a friend), (I saw emulators in the ubuntu repository, in theory it should go on such hardware) and also, probably, roam the web through all sorts of mozillas and midori (respectively, if not video (probably will not pull, then at least music without lags))
Well, maybe, sew microcontrollers (but this will not be soon) (you need to sew microcontrollers with such computers, which you don’t feel sorry for ...).

Maybe I'm a fool, but I just can't find where to download Debian 6 (something, I'll cut it along the way) from live SD (for a superficial assessment of performance and the possibility of operability (launch))
It seems to be here, but I don't see https: //www.debian.org/releases/squeeze/debian-ins... )

And what's the big deal with these cd/dvds anyway? What image to cut on a flash drive?
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Downloading FreeBCD 5.5 (2 disks =( ) Let's see what happens...
Debian 6 with Mini.iso did not hook the network (it seems), but during the installation he asked for some closed component from a flash drive or floppy disk (but I wouldn’t give it to him if he was, because the laptop has one usb (busy under a bootable USB flash drive with a miniiso), and the floppy is occupied by an image that allows you to boot from a USB flash drive (this laptop cannot boot from a USB flash drive from the BIOS =( ))

This is FreeBCD.... How to make friends with FreeBSD and
IDE HDD
?

Apparently Bodhi, puppy, l(x)ubuntu 10.04, debian 8, DAMM Small Linux, gentoo dvd/cd and many other distros with which I tried this laptop did not work because of dropped support for something...
Something that is not in all, these distributions (in slaco pyppy is, but there the X's didn't start with any of the 4 standard
video logs )

I don’t understand, what does nonpae have to do with it?
By subject - try the last zenwalk and puppy. Also debian with lmde (6th, apparently).

Any naked distro with a lightweight window manager, better than some I3wm, many distros have builds with none-pae

As an option, install the base ArchLinux and install everything you need.
For a graphical interface, install LXDE or something simpler:

A 256 MB system will fit in and there will be some more RAM for applications.

Once upon a time it worked without problems for me on a Pentium M with 512 MB of NetBSD memory, and not only worked, but also compiled itself. Version 6. You can build a distribution kit for yourself on a more powerful machine. It is clear that you first have to figure out how to configure and assemble what is there. In general, it will be an amateur.

PAE/non-PAE has nothing to do with it. I'm trying to remember when it was... Google says it's 2000 - 2001. So it's FreeBSD 4.x or 5.x and KDE3. Well, I was working on it at the time. You can try any FreeBSD distribution up to 9.3 - everything is heavily cut there. True, FreeBSD is focused on rebuilding itself, and rebuilding the kernel there is not a guru process, as in Linux, but an ordinary job for a novice admin, because you have to do it almost immediately - because it’s slow to work on generics, and sometimes it’s simply impossible .

Although a year after the question, but faced the same issue.
Alternatively, you can try the legacy distribution of Bodhi Linux. It just removed the pae requirement and made some tweaks to make the system as such easier. It started up on my laptop with Pentium M, I'll try it.

And I found a subject!
This is Slitaz , or rather the 4th version - the 5th is no longer on the Pentium III.
Not fresh - 2012, but the main thing is :)
