What is the easiest and best way to make an incremental backup?

Good day.
At the moment, I backup the site every day by simply archiving a folder with documents and a mysql
dump
. and in the case of an asterisk, it was easy to recover,
what would you advise?

I advise you to look towards rdiff-backup . The utility makes a differential backup of files. Next, you must use rsync to take backups from the server. You can not pick it up, but store it on the server, but if something happens to the server (CloudMouse), then there will be no sense from those backups on the server

easier than this script, I have not yet met www.opennet.ru/dev/fsbackup , it has been working for me for 2 years without interruption

Several solutions.
1. delete old backups
2. rsync itself can create incremental backups with all the pluses and minuses.

1. rdiff-backup. Note that individual increments cannot be deleted.
2. snapshot.
By the way, here is an interesting article on their performance:

3. Simple and reliable tar can increment:

Here is a great software for Linux. Able to use different types of backup and storage (including Amazon S3)
