What is the difference between Websockets and Session?

Web sockets, as I understand it, are just an eternal connection between the server and the client, and the session is the same thing but with a server that remembers the client?

you are comparing very different things.
websockets are like electrical wiring: you lay it and use it, connect whatever you want, what voltage you apply at the input - then at the output.
and the session is like a toilet: he wanted - he put it, he wanted it - he took what he put.

If you make an exaggerated association, then sockets are if you watch a movie online when there is a network connection, and a session is when you watch a movie from a file from a flash drive (which if you pull it out, the file will be erased).
