VDS is a virtual machine completely controlled by you with an OS, that is, a console, ssh, and put whatever software you want there. In this case, the server is completely at your disposal - you can even reboot it.
PHP - or so-called. shared hosting, when on one operating system you are not given complete freedom of action, but only access to the folder where you upload your files, and a couple of goodies in addition. Databases that you can use, as well as programming languages, settings, etc. hosting decides for you. You can do nothing but upload your files via FTP, and rejoice.
But I dare to add that PHP hosting is always cheaper and more productive than VPS / VDS, since you are not allocated a whole Virtual Machine with an OS, but only a percentage of the total bandwidth and resources of the system common to all. Like a commune with hippies.

vds - a virtual machine (sometimes a container)
+:
1. You are the owner with root access, do what you want, install any software, etc. /
2. More or less guaranteed resources in terms of processor, memory, disk
-:
1. Price
2. You will configure everything yourself
php hosting - they will allocate you a daddy and a virtual host on a machine (possibly also a virtual one) along with a hundred more comrades in misfortune
+:
1. Price
2. In a simple case, no special settings are required - fill in the files and go
- :
1. Limited configuration options, a limited set of software
2. We share resources (percentage for sure) with neighbors
3. Dumb in terms of security
4. Common IP for everyone as a rule

Virtual Dedicated (Private) Server is a term that refers to a separately dedicated and running server in a virtual environment. It mimics exactly how physical hardware works (for example, root access or the ability to install your own software), while its capabilities are limited only by virtualization and functionality. In the article, we will consider what differences VDS has from virtual and physical servers and in which cases it is preferable to choose this technology.

Are there any differences between VPS and VDS
Many people believe that the name of the two terms reflects the type of virtualization used for the server: the first implies the use of virtualization at the OS level, and the second at the hardware level.
However, this is not the case - the terms appeared almost simultaneously (and in parallel), they immediately began to be used to refer to the same thing: a virtual host that exists on the basis of a physical host machine. The difference is only in the designation: Dedicated Server is a dedicated (separately allocated) server, and Private Server is private. In fact, each of the terms reflects one of the sides of the methodology. You can use any abbreviation, because they are essentially equivalent.
