What is the difference between debugElement and nativeElement?

Please help me understand the difference between debugElement and nativeElement. Regarding the first, the documentation says the following:

The DebugElement associated with the root element of the component.
The debugElement provides insight into the component and its DOM element

Regarding the second, the documentation says the following:

The native DOM element at the root of the component.

As far as I understand, they both point to the root html element of the component template.
