What is the difference between aria and xtradb in MariaDB?

I can’t find the difference between them and therefore I can’t decide which one to choose. what engine is most suitable, so to speak - for growth? (mostly reading by sorting)
....
in terms of PHP. work with MariaDB in the same way as with MySQL, through mysqli? what about SQLInject?

take aria if there are no plans to use the relation of tables by keys. If there is a need, then the table can be converted to another engine
