What is the correct algorithm of actions when transferring a site from one domain to another?

Hello.
There was such a task.

There are two different sites. Conditionally:
1) site.com
2) x.site.com Required

:

Move the x.site site to the site.com domain, and the site that was originally on the site.com domain should be placed on the old.site.com domain. At the same time, it is necessary that at least one of these two sites function during the move.

Such a course of action:

1. Transferring the site site to the old.site domain
2. Make a temporary redirect from site to old.site (during the transfer of x.site to the site domain)
3. Transferring x.site to the site domain
4. Remove the redirect from site on old.site

Am I missing something?

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to first bring x.site to the third domain (new) and test it thoroughly there. So it will be easier to avoid pitfalls like hardcoded URLs in the content or code for the old version. And then work out the transfers using the web server configs or .htaccess .
