What is the best way to work with files on the server?
I immediately apologize for the purely noob question.
All my adult life I have used such a thing as FAR, tk. the habit of working with a keyboard ruled out all sorts of SmartFTP. It's just more convenient for me to use the console and watch file listings.
The question is: what is now in vogue for working with FTP, SFTP, SSH?

TotalCommander. FTP out of the box, the rest of the functionality is extended using plugins.
For SFTP there is a plugin for FAR, WinSCP . Able to integrate with Pageant from the PuTTY package . Basically, PuTTY, WinSCP for FAR and WinSCP separately should be enough.
If you need to redirect Xs, you can advise XMing . Except for the typical stupid X problem of inconsistency between the X keyboard layout and the system one, it's normal.
The barrel is in habit and ease of use. Try all of them and choose according to your taste. I will add Filezilla to the list of programs for review.
Putty Connection manager + putty for ssh and mc to work with files.
To download filezilla files via sftp.
For editing vi or nano.
For editing large volumes (configuration or dynamics fix) notepad ++ via sftp.
