There are two options to download the ZIP archive with the files of the new version of the program and unpack it into the program folder. Or download a separate installer that will update the game files. Personally, it seems to me that the first option is simpler. But if it’s still an installer, advise how to write it specifically for updating

It is quite common for users to completely misunderstand the concepts of file location, etc.
Therefore, at least there will be a rake, for example, with the user trying to run something inside the archive and copying the archive to a place similar to the location of the current version ... well, "this file was obtained from an unreliable source and blocked" - no one canceled ....
Therefore, launching a certain installer with a single "do everything" button will turn out to be more usable.
