What is the best way to sell a game?
Suppose there is a game from a small indie team. Written in Unity. The team has several sites (games, teams, etc.). The plan also includes games like f2p but with donations. What is better to do, build a "shop" on your server (where the sites are) or not fool around and work with Steam (but it strains the greenlight, pay Steam, pay there, pay here)?
I am interested in both the legal side (if you make a store at your place, what problems can there be and what are the nuances with Steam) and the technical side (maybe there are some similar solutions, perhaps ideally suited for this action).

Also take into account the fact that who gave up buying some kind of left indie game on unity on a third-party site?
In the incentive, people don’t always fork out for something like that, let alone their store. Even if you give the interest to Valva, you will most likely be in a much larger plus due to the number of potential buyers.
