What is the best way to organize a NAS?

Hello
There is a goal to organize a NAS based on several old shelves connected via FC. Chose FreeNAS software, previously used XigmaNAS.
I would like to ask: what are the best practices for organizing storage? What is the best way to organize pools and volumes? Any advice?

Thanks

Volumes - by usage type or by usage hosts.
Pools - for common hardware (mixing 3t disks with 133g looks wrong).
Be sure to leave and declare spare disks of each type.
Do not make large raid groups (it was my mistake to cram the entire shelf into one group).
If you have an ssd, you can build it with swap.
In short, there is room for improvement.

ZFS is great, but not always obvious.
There are a lot of nuances, which depend on how many disks, what sector sizes there are, what will be stored on this NAS.
