What is the best way to implement periodic notification logic in node.js?

For example, I have a meeting calendar on a website. How can I make it so that a notification comes a couple of hours before the meeting? Pulling a server by interval is not an option, maybe something like cron? Thanks in advance and sorry if the question is banal and boyish.
