What is the best use to create a select list with pictures?

What is the best use to create a select list with pictures?
I found the "select_icons" and "Icon Select" modules on the net. There are also various plugins for jQuery and js.
Tried to use select_icons but the list sometimes falls apart and sometimes it doesn't work at all and looks like a regular one.
What is stable?

select2 is more stable like there is nothing. A large audience, a lot of things you can peep on stackoverflow, in general, you won’t be lost :)
